Important New Pact With India
I wrote a while ago on the emerging alliance between the US and India. Now Joe Katzman at Winds of Change reports that a major defense pact between the two countries has been signed (hat tip Instapundit):
This is a big deal. A very big deal.[...]
It doesn't get much stronger than being a geopolitical strategic partner of the United States. China doesn't have to be challenged directly or even mentioned to have its options hemmed, and that's what just happened.
As a commenter noted, this is a major accomplishment for the Bush administration. Amidst the Dems' incessant whining about "alienation of allies"--which of course has always meant only France, Germany, and Russia--GWB has successfully brought a country with enormous potential as an ally into the circle of friends of the US. And this was a country that for years was a close ally of the Soviet Union.
As usual, the commenters to Winds of Change are among the best--the post as well as the comments are highly recommended.
