Well, I Never...

Our (one and only) major local newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, is regularly slammed--quite rightly--by us Houston conservatives. The Chron's current condition is a perfect example of the ossification that occurs when competition is eliminated; the Chronicle bought out its longtime rival the Houston Post back in 1995. And its editorial stance has lurched to the left ever since the paper was itself bought by the Hearst corporation in 1987.

So it was with some surprise that I noticed that the Chronicle was selected as the best blogging newspaper by Jay Rosen and his team of NYU students (via Instapundit).

It's pretty funny that, although I've read the newspaper every day since I was about eight years old (thanks, Dad), my daily blog roster doesn't include the Chronicle. I guess I'll check them out from time to time, but I doubt they'll take the place of The Corner or Powerline.

I'll tell you one thing, though. Richard Justice is one of the best sportswriters going.
